"Truly profound thinkers and highly creative artists are always out of s
tep with their time and their society."
The whole mankind society is like a titanic armada, navigating the giant
world of the ocean, while thinkers and artists are like the pilot boats
, controlling the main shipping routes, for it is undisputable that thin
kers and artists always stand in the front of the society and the times,
leading the future way. People thus start to consider profound thinkers
and creative artists disharmonious with their time and their society.
It is not an irrational idea. While seeking the exact way to go, thinker
s and artists tend to exceed the realm of the modern world and soar to a
kingdom higher, which determines that no ordinary people of the current
society is capable of appreciating their work. Founded the oldest Chine
se school of thought over two thousand years ago, Confucius journeyed ar
ound six countries to persuade the politicians into using his new idea b
ut no one acknowledged him. His policy of benevolence was highly absurd
and unreasonable to the government at that time. Vincent Van Gogh's draw
ing was understood by the common years after his death, too.
Nevertheless, this is merely a superficial conclusion, which is not tigh
tly related to the essence of the matter. Thinkers and artists are truly
pioneers developing the human society but their works are actually firm
ly connected with the current times. The society is like an enormous pyr
amid under construction and thinkers and artists are constructers who st
and at the top, laying the highest bricks. No matter how high they are,
they are still standing on the base: the contemporary civilization.
Look at those profound thinkers. Friedrich Nietzsche, German philosopher
of the late 19th century shouted: "The God is dead." challenging the fo
undations of traditional morality and Christianity. He was actually tryi
ng to change the society at that time. Arthur Schopenhauer's "pessimisti
c" world-view that regarded nonbeing more highly than being was in fact
against the established conventions of the society. Always caring the wh
ole world, Bertrand Russell kept writing philosophy on society and polit
ics.
Look at the creative artists. Plato Picasso's work during the "Blue Time
" definitely reflected the dark corners of the society: the poverty and
the despair of the paupers. The grand ballads Frederick Chopin expressed
his fury and mysery towards the war. The encyclopedic Divine Commedia o
f Dante Alighieri was inclusive of all the social phenomena at that time
.
However, if we proceed on to a deeper aspect, we will discover that the
true thoughts and beauties do not alter with time.The ultimate realm of
thinkers and artists has already gone beyond the fourth dimension and pe
rmanent exists. It is not difficult to deduce so if you take a thought o
f the eternal rules of the universe or the magnificene of the Egyptian p
yramids.
Truly profound thinkers and highly creative artists lead their time and
their society, caring them and trying to reform them in their ways. They
, undeniably, also scour the jungle of the world for the perpetual true
thoughts and beauties. And this is already not a matter of place or time
. This is a matter of the truth.
